About Full Moon Momma Yoga
Hi, my name is Kami! As a yoga teacher my passion lies in accessibility, community and mental health activism. My style of teaching is slower, a more gentle form of yoga - with an emphasis on Yin. I enjoy teaching yoga that is calm, gentle, grounding, and soothes the nervous system. Yoga for every BODY. The parable of the tortoise and the hare comes to mind, slow and steady saves the day! I've been practicing yoga on and off for 20 years, teaching for the past 5 of that...but all I truly care about is that when I am 85 years old I can tie my own shoes and still sit to meditate! For me it is less about how the pose looks, and more about how the pose FEELS.
My teaching style is grounded in my own personal experience with mental health issues, chronic back pain, childhood/adult trauma, and exploring various healing modalities. Yin yoga took me deep inside my own body and taught me to worship at the altar of my soul. For so long I pushed and strived, forced and sweat, trying to make my body look and feel like something it was not. It was only when I found yin that I learned to honor and listen to the "issues in my tissues", that my chronic pain was tied to my chronic struggle with mental health and trauma. That is when the true healing work began.
I did not invent these poses, or their benefits. I acknowledge and situate my practices as a white western woman, teaching a spiritual practice with deep roots in India on the traditional lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsliel-Waututh.
I am a neurodivergent warrior, living with ADHD, depression, and an anxiety disorder. I am a survivor of childhood abuse, and former foster kid. These things make me the multifaceted and empathetic human that I am! I am also....a mother, a wife, a baker, crocheter, and memory maker. I love to garden and am studying herbalism. Born and raised in North Vancouver, Canada.
